after the end

after the end, 2012, collage on paper, 70 x 100 cm

Title piece from my current show, after the end. By PURE coincidence, this little girl looks scarily a lot like a combination me and my eldest sister Sarah - perhaps if there had been a fourth sister in the family, she would look like this little girl.

Starting to notice a bit of a pattern of little dark-haired girls in my work. My goodness, a psychologist could have a field day with that.

new work

my child, my child - collage on paper, 2012

Due to it's sheer tininess I've decided not to put this piece in the upcoming show - the image in this bad boy measures approx 3 x 4 cm despite being on a rather hefty piece of paper (around 20 x 20 cm. I just made that up. I'm not sure how big it is, but I reckon that's a good estimate).

pocket rocket

Another sneak preview of some of the goods on offer from this Saturday. pocket rocket is a collage made from an exercising girl from a 1939 youth magazine, and hundreds of tiny bird tails and wings from a 1950s bird watching book. She's wild. Just look at those arms.

the back journals # 25

Here's an oldie but a goodie that has just resurfaced - my original milly molly mandy work, which now gesticulates as a t-shirt design. This drawing is ink on paper and was created in 2008. Fun times!

jewels (slightly smaller than regular size)

I have been hanging to pop this one up for some time now, but I was saving it! Reminds me of in primary school, and I was always really stingy with lending out my red texta, coz I was saving it, and didn't want it all used up. Saving it for what?! So stupid! Anyway, I was keeping this piece under wraps (literally) as I wanted it to have a surprise unveiling at the show opening, which was fantastic. It was so lovely to have friends pop in and gasp 'oh this is all NEW work!' (as opposed to that crusty old drivel I usually show?) and this piece was the crowd pleaser. Yep, I'm totally horn-tooting tonight.

These butterflies were all cut in a day (of madness) from an antique book named 'what butterfly is that?' - these are all Australian species and remind me how lucky I am (for numerous reasons) to live in such a diverse and beautiful country. It's making me a little weepy actually. Maybe I'm getting my period?

The work reminds me of my so very awesome great auntie Pat, who I reckon must have looked just like this when she was a little girl (and pretty much still does actually). She tells the best stories, and can never stop talking. An alternative title of this work was 'she looks like the sort of lady who has strawberries in her fridge' - a quote from her childhood, traveling on the tram with another little girl, while they gazed longingly at a wonderfully presented woman sitting near them.

I love my auntie Pat and uncle Dween. They're tops.

suckerpunch

I made this work during my 2nd year of art school and it has always stuck in my mind - luckily, I managed to find it amongst all the crazy yesterday! I had a thing for red stripes. Still do as a matter of fact. Click on the image for a larger size - this one cleans up gooood.

golden girl

She's so fine.

from many moons ago

I made this work early this year, after the awesome Kent made me my very own lightbox! I did this to test the idea of expanding images beyond the original collage. The colours are a bit naf, but the composition feels good!

You can see the original loghead collage here!

new work!

hey all! apologies in my extreme lack of posting - i am currently sitting in piles of boxes and crap, as kent and i are moving at the end of the month to go travelling (woohoo!) - what with getting married, christmas, working a LOT and moving, it is (sadly) leaving little time and space for making - aaaargh!!

though the upside of this is the downscaling of studio-matter, meaning that things are more quickly clarified which is nice - hopefully more visual treats to come very soon!
