cook-up

I thought I'd slip in a sneak-preview of what's coming ... this is one of my most favourite kitchen items EVER, or at least 1 of. It comes from a set of 4 measuring cups of gorgeous-geesey-goodness. These little fellas (or chickies ... what's a man goose look like anyway? And what is he called?) are original 1950s/60s cups, made from that indestructible plastic that just doesn't break (no matter how hard you seem to accidentally fling it onto a the lino.)

I bought these cups years ago from the chapel st bazaar (when it still was reasonably affordable) - before I even moved out of home. I may have a domesticity addiction. I'm not ashamed.

If you do not own novelty measuring cups, then I strongly suggest you start scouring bazaars, markets and online to secure yourself some. Because what's the fun of baking if you don't have comical yet functional tools?

Sunny country days

This weekend I had my folks come and visit my new home in Daylesford. In exchange for having them over for the night, they whisked us around town, exploring all kinds of delights. The day started with an amazing breakfast at Breakfast and Beer where I sampled some of the sweetest and fluffiest corn fritters I've ever had - this place reminded me of Birdman Eating in Fitzroy, in terms of delicious fresh food that's a little bit special, with a hint of that lovely crusty decor adopted by Borsch Vodka and Tears (i miss you guys!). This was followed by a stroll through the farmer's market (collecting home made chutneys and cookies along the way) with a stop off at the gorgeous Daylesford Makers Market, carrying some excellent brownies and gorgeous products to boot.

Oh and then we swanned over to Lark's (if you're into all things baking, tuppaware and polka dots, I strongly recommend this store - cute as a button!) garage sale, where I managed to pick up a knee high stack of girl's own annuals for FREE, which prompted this irresistible appropriation:

Weren't the fifties grand? I felt it was my duty to tribute Lark for their generosity (and what better way to do that then though a cute pink apron and a cupcake?) - thanks Lark!

And speaking of cupcakes, stay tuned for my ultimate (and easy!) cupcake recipe that will be added shortly - it will knock your socks off. Or possibly make you fat. Either way, something exciting is bound to happen.

gold blossom

I have for you another work from my 2nd year at art school, probably my most freeing time of art-making. A time where I felt no restraint, worry or anxiety about what I made - I was too busy making it to worry about what it might mean, whether it would help pay my bills or whether anybody thought it was any good. I never stopped drawing - I drew on whatever was closest (such as the paper table cloths and napkins at the nearby cafe, price tags picked up off the floor from the shop where I worked, empty medicine boxes ... you name it). Finding my work from this time definitely pulls on my heart strings - it was a time of true romance, and it's inspired me to dive back in. Sometimes it's good to get lost in making.

suckerpunch

I made this work during my 2nd year of art school and it has always stuck in my mind - luckily, I managed to find it amongst all the crazy yesterday! I had a thing for red stripes. Still do as a matter of fact. Click on the image for a larger size - this one cleans up gooood.

Prints now available!

Hello all! I have just added a run of prints to my shop! These are inkjet reproductions of my pussy wagtail collage, in a limited edition of 50, printed on lovely Arches paper - yum yum!

golden girl

She's so fine.

from many moons ago

I made this work early this year, after the awesome Kent made me my very own lightbox! I did this to test the idea of expanding images beyond the original collage. The colours are a bit naf, but the composition feels good!

You can see the original loghead collage here

the secret

Yippee!! Apologies for my serious lack of posting. I have now relocated to Daylesford, land of the spa and overpriced lattes, gargantuan moths and now, the warming room! Boxes are unpacked (mostly), furniture in place (nearly) and internet heartily activated. So while I get settled, I thought I'd post this little number I created in my honours year, which somehow missed a place in the warming room hall of fame - I don't know why - I love this piece! It honestly spooks me out ... Creepy things. And stuff.

fallen by the wayside

How this little number slipped through the cracks is beyond me. I think this is the first silly mutant I ever created. This cat duck (cuck?) in a way was the beginning of mutant land for me ... it's little head is so chubby, its duck legs so flappy! What's not to love?

I wish this creature existed. As if you wouldn't want to pinch it's cheeks. No? Just me then?

new studio!

Aaaah, smell the potential, feel the sunshine, look at the shiny new floor! Welcome to my new Daylesford Studio of Happy! And by 'my' deep down I really mean 'ours' but I am being overexcited and greedy. Kent can have that corner over there somewhere. We have a super lushy view out onto our huge grassy garden, with rosmary planted over to the left, and bamboo over to the right (you can't see these in the photo though). There is also a stripey outdoor blind, just like in a story book, that is all awesome. Can't wait to get my desk in there and start making shit! Woot!'

Happy news: my etsy shop is finally OPEN! Huzzah! You can visit it here, or by searching for allbecause under 'shop' on the etsy website. (This is my sign in name, and unfortunately this couldn't be changed until it was far too late - apologies for any confusion!) Feel free to browse and enjoy, at this stage I am posting original works for sale. Once I get settled in my new house, I am planning to have custom stationary and prints for sale also - eeee!
