Never Stop Laughing

hey all! apologies for the massive delay in posting - i was all tied up getting married last week! huzzah!

SOLD

anyway, here is a work i was commissioned to do for a lady's british husband, who apparently is obsessed with kookaburras. it is another raised collage, so the light it catches is gorgeous!

hopefully i will get some more work happening soon, once i have waded through the wave of thank you cards to wedding guests etc! stay tuned ...

sit tight

hey all,

i am in the process of tidying up all my labels to make them singular rather than plural, and hopefully easier to navigate - this will take a WHILE so bare with me!

xx

bare? bear? hmm ...

sudden flushes of unconcious material

so last night i was asked 'how long does it take you to make one of these?' - it's really hard to say! i think of it liiiike - most pieces i spend days and days and DAYS cutting. I have draws of disembodied figures and objects. it is like i have a vat of thousands of mismatched puzzle pieces from different sets. and so then there is sometimes minutes, hours, days, of trying to get them to fit together. and then, by magic, when they do, it is about a nano-second of fitting joy! sometimes.

other times, like above, there is an idea - i had my many fish, and wanted them to explode out of something - it was about trying to find the right source of the explosion! originally it was a little girl, but she just wasn't right. sometimes it takes longer to compose the image so it is on the right sized white space... other times the image is created alone, and then i find a little white void for it to sit in after. make sense? maybe not ...

bunting madness and road trips

between car accidents and rushing sisters to the ER with kidney stones, it hasn't left much time for making pictures! thank goodness everyone is ok, and i have a back log of bunting madness! this is a new addiction i have discovered, and now am going flag crazy. thinking of setting up a wee online store to off load some - until then, i have been filling my apartment with gay little flags all around!

kent and i went on a sunshiney road trip around regional victoria, and stopped in bush fire ravaged Marysville. since the catastrophic bush fires in february 2009, the town has been slowly rebuilding. i had never been there before, but what was once an apparently beautiful and quaint tourist strip, is now empty. aside from 2 cafes and a new supermarket, the rest is empty blocks of land and a comforting amount of construction sites. so devastating, yet an element of positivity hangs in the air.

the landscape is truly bizarre, and strangely beautiful. as all the trees are now mere scorched trunks, the regrowth is remarkable, and now the forest looks like some fantastical other-world. all the leaves are growing back like giant wooly coats, as if to protect what's left of the trees. it is so melancholy, but also so wonderful to see the new life emerging from this area. if you're wondering what to do with your day - go and take a drive, and support one of the local towns by going and having some lunch and doing some tourist shopping! (mmm - ham sandwiches!)
